I heart Smoothies + a recipe

Im so excited to be introducing and sharing my first ever “blog series” called “I heart Smoothies”.  Its true…I drink a smoothie almost every single day of the year.  I love them.  They are so simple to make and full of goodness.  So, my hope is to share some amazing recipes with you, for you to enjoy.  Smoothies are really one of the simplest  foods to make and hardly take any time at all … {which a huge bonus if you’ve got kids!} Drinking a smoothie is almost always a meal for me,  so packing them full of nutrients is key and will hopefully give me energy all day long…or at least till  snack time. I can’t wait to share my favorites recipes that I’ve tried  and I promise they are almost always kid friendly!   To start…here is a super basic recipe that is sweet, tasty and FULL of healthy foods. { and Hopefully you have all the ingredients right in your kitchen to make it that much easier }

1 cup Strawberries- fresh (or frozen) cut in half
2 medium size Bananas
1 cup baby spinach
10 raw Almonds
1/4 cup Honey greek yogurt ( I used Zoi)
1 1/2 Cups very cold filtered water

* To prep for this smoothie, I cleaned, rinsed, removed stems and cut the strawberries in half, then froze. I often buy fresh and then freeze as I love to have plenty of frozen strawberries available, so I always make sure they are ready to blend. Fruit freezes really easy, almost within a few hours. This is a great way to make your smoothie cold. You may also do this with Bananas ( just make sure you take the peel off first ) and of course tons of other fruits are great to add to any smoothie recipe.

*To make this smoothie thicker, add 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries + 1/2 cup yogurt in addition to the recipe above. You can’t go wrong… I promise!

When buying strawberries make sure they are bright red (with no white or green around the stem), plump, with no soft spots. These will make your smoothie so much more flavorful.
